IPSC STATEMENT RE IRISH-AMERICAN ACTIVIST'S ARREST

The Committee and members of the Irish Political Status Committee view with concern the arrest and attempted intimidation this week of an IPSC representative in the United States.

It is our understanding the person concerned was visited by the police with an arrest warrant and escorted into court in handcuffs. No warning of an arrest was given - nor was the person concerned given any kind of explanation as to why she was arrested -
other than for the alledged 'non-payment of a debt' - which later proved unfounded.

We now also understand this individual has been charged - and according to the presiding judge - 'could serve time' - despite the fact no trial has yet taken place. It is no coincidence the member in question is - and has been for some considerable time - a political activist, and rendered valuable services to the Irish freedom struggle and the Irish republican prisoners in particular.

The Irish Political Status Committee condemns unreservedly this attempted intimidation of our representative in the USA - and applaud her courage and determination.

SHE HAS OUR FULLEST SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY!

We shall continue to monitor this situation - and it's repercussions - on a daily basis.
