Save O'Connell Street's last 10 old trees, pleads Lord Mayor

A CALL to preserve the remaining old trees on O'Connell Street has been made by Lord Mayor Michael Conaghan. He urged the public to campaign against the city manager's plan to replace the 100-year-old 'London Plane' trees with smaller trees.

City manager John Fitzgerald wants the final 10 big trees felled to complete the renovation of the appearance of the country's main thoroughfare. The plans for the second phase of the project are open for public consultation until September 27.
