15/11/2004 - 13:13:48
The Sinn Féin leader in the Dáil, Caoimhin Ó Caolain, has called on the Minister for Finance to prioritise the needs of children in the next budget.
Deputy Ó Caolain quoted recent studies claiming 21% of children in this country live below the poverty line, compared to an EU average of 15%.
Speaking at the launch of the Sinn Féin budget submission document in Dublin, he said there is a greater awareness now than ever before of the persistent inequalities in Irish society that have been deepened by the Government.
