THE future of the Kerry Gaeltacht was boosted yesterday by a €2 million investment to create 80 jobs at a local call centre.

Arts, Sport and Tourism Minister John O’Donoghue said the jobs would help safeguard the economic survival of many in the Dingle community.

“It is important for the future development of the Kerry Gaeltacht that high-quality employment is provided within the region and that people no longer need to leave their own area to work in modern services,” the minister and local TD said. “This new facility will provide an important boost to the economy in the area.”

Udaras na Gaeltachta announced 80 jobs would be created at a new customer contact centre at Dingle Business Park.

The overall investment in the facility is expected to exceed €1.9 including employment, training and capital grants provided by Udaras na Gaeltachta.

Recruitment will commence immediately and the centre will be up and running by the end of January 2005. Overall accommodation will be provided for 70 call agents plus supervisory, training, ICT support and management personnel.
