Oscar nomination for Terry George

A local writer will get to experience all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s biggest awards party.
Terry George from the Short Strand has received the glittering accolade of an Oscar nomination. He won the nomination for the screenplay for the film Hotel Rwanda, which recounts the story of hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina, who housed over a thousand Tutsi refugees during the genocide in Rwanda.
The film, which stars Don Cheadle, who is also up for an Academy Award, missed out on a Golden Globe but won the People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival. Terry is likely to take the experience in his stride having already received an Academy Award for his screenplay for In the Name of the Father in 1993.
Other scripts Terry George has penned include The Boxer, which also starred Daniel Day-Lewis, and Hart's War, which featured Irish actor Colin Farrell.
