Dublin crime gangs targeted by gardaí

09 February 2005 22:10

Gardaí in Blanchardstown say criminal gangs are now sourcing illegal firearms on the Internet and having them delivered through the post.

Gardaí have set up Operation Crossover to target organised crime in northwest Dublin.

In a series of searches detectives working on the operation have recovered replica submachine guns and assault rifles capable of firing steel and hard plastic ammunition.

They have also seized large quantities of sawn-off shotguns, pistols, ammunition, drugs, scanners and counterfeit DVDs.

More than 1,000 checkpoints, along with intelligence-driven operations and raids on targeted criminals' homes, have led to over 130 people being arrested.

Flick knives, cleavers and samurai swords have been seized from halting sites in the area.
