Child escapes injury in attack

The attack happened in Derry on Monday evening

A taxi driver has been attacked by a gang of young people while working in Derry.

It is believed a group of 15 girls and boys carrying sticks and batons threw stones at his vehicle in Irish Street in the Waterside area of the city.

His eight-year-old daughter was also in the car during the attack on Monday night.

He said that if she had been sitting in a different seat in the taxi, she could have been seriously hurt.

"She's very, very lucky. Anything could have happened, she could have been blinded, she could have been hit in the head, she could have been brain damaged," he said.
