Girl critical after hit-and-run

The police have appealed for information

A five-year-old girl is critically ill in hospital after being knocked down in west Belfast.

She was hit by a blue van on Norglen Road in the Turf Lodge area at about 1500 BST on Tuesday.

The driver failed to stop.

A seven-year-old girl who was with her at the time was not injured.

Many children were in the area at the time as local schools had just closed for the day.

Inspector Russell Bell said police needed the community's help.

"We would ask anyone who either witnessed the accident or may have seen a blue van with frontal damage acting suspiciously after the accident occurred to contact us," he said.
